Medieval Village

The purpose of this project was to understand the basics of 3D Environment Design within Unreal Engine 5.

The Initial stages of the project consisted of the creation of three different blockouts within the theme I chose and evaluating which one I would like to develop further.

I created the landscape for the blockouts using procedural landscapes which allowed me to create specific designs including lakes, islands, and rocky terrain. Then, I began to paint each landscape by hand to create the desired effect.

Once I decided which blockout I would like to develop, I began adding different assets from the Epic Games marketplace. Initially, I added different panels of wood to create the houses and, I also used the planks to create a path that would lead to each house. Then, I began adding various types of foliage to the rocky landscape and to the areas where water was added. I added some areas where the villagers would keep their horses and plant their crops. This includes a wooden fence to surround the area and assets such as plants, farming tools, and some hay within the area. I also added assets called Medieval Tools to the open areas of the houses to make them more interesting. These assets include vases and other types of pottery, hammers, shovels, barrels, chains, and many more.

I intended to create a sunset effect within the scene to create some interesting reflections in the water using different kinds of lighting. I added lamp posts to different areas on the walkway and I also added lanterns to the houses where the villagers would spend their time.
